Mangalore: “The ISRO will launch a satellite to study the sky in the year 2015”, said Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman Dr K Radhakrishnan during the 32nd annual convocation of Mangalore University here on Monday February 24.














Addressing the gathering he stated that the satellite will have six instruments. It will be launched on PSLV and the instruments are developed by different institutions like Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Indian Institute of Astrophysics and the ISRO. It will be a multi-wavelength astronomy mission., he informed
With reference to the role of Universities, he also said that Universities must contribute to the development of new technology. The launch vehicle programme and the satellite have been contributing tirelessly for achieving technological capabilities that are essential for the nation, he informed.
Dr Radhakrishnan awarded around 112 students with the doctoral degrees (PhD). Nearly 38 students were honoured with gold medals and about 65 students received cash prizes for their outstanding performance in the last academic year.
The ISRO Chairman inaugurated the management block, SVP Institute of Kannada Studies, second floor of humanity building, first floor of girls hostel, dining hall of girls hostel, Purse lab, cyber lab of library and seminar halls at the university premises in Mangalagangothri.
Vice-chancellor of Mangalore University Prof T C Shivashankara Murthy, Registrar Prof P S Yadapadithaya, Registrar (evaluation) Prof B Narayana, deans, members of syndicate and academic councils were present on the dais.
