
Mangaluru: A 33-year-old fisherman from Odisha, who was stranded in the sea was rescued by the Indian Coast Guard Ship, on Wednesday, October 23.
The rescued fisherman has been identified as Goraya Rao of Odisha. Sources from coast guard police informed that a fishing boat ‘Shaional Angel’ with Reg No IND KA/01/3820 left from Mangaluru port for fishing on Wednesday at around 3 am. As the fisherman Goraya Rao was found missing, distress message was received from the office of Coastal Security Police Malpe, Udupi. Immediately, Indian Coast Guard Ship Savitribai Phule on deployment off Karnataka coast for exercise SAJAG was alerted and swiftly recovered the missing fisherman at about 10 nautical miles from Malpe Light House. On recovery, the fully exhausted fisherman was provided food and first-aid.
Coast Guard DIG SS Dasila told newskarnataka.com that it was a daring operation at sea under very rough sea conditions with high waves and wind speed. The condition of fisherman is stable and he was brought to NMPT and handed over to Coastal Security Police.
