Karkala : Congress has played an important role in making India one of the leading countries in the world said former Union minister Oscar Fernandes.

Speaking at the Rajiv Gandhi Auditorium in a meeting organised for Congress workers he said those who promised change in the country should look back how the congress ruled India, Otherwise democracy will lose its meaning and anti-social elements will emerge, he said.

Former MP Jayaprakash Hegde, speaking on the occasion,  said that “the country  faced inflation and many other challenges due to huge fall of economy in America and Europe. During that time Dr Manmohan singh’s economic policy helped the country. Present govt is trying to acquire power rather than new achievements.”
