Independence Day celebrated in Udupi

Udupi : The 67th Independence Day was celebrated in a grand manner  at Udupi on August 15. Thursday. Udupi District in-charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake hoisted the National Tri-Colour and received the Guard of Honour.


In his Independence Day address, Sorake exhorted people to lead a peaceful life  through mutual respect, understanding and co-operation. On this  occasion, Sorake assured that the state government would ensure a transparent and corruption free administration.

He also spoke on the various developmental programmes of the state government. He  informed  that Udupi would soon be declared a heritage city. He said  the Naxal affected areas would be sanctioned a grant of Rs 7 crores. He said there were plans to convert the Brahmavar Sugar Factory into a Horticultural University. A sum of Rs 5 crore has been earmarked for the Koti Chennaya theme park, he informed.

Sheena Poojari, ASI of Brahmavar was honoured on the occasion. Pramod Madhwaraj, Udupi Legislator, Dr Boralingaiah, SP, Dr MT Reju, Deputy Commissioner, ZP CEO Prabhaker Sharma and others were presented.

Students of various schools presented cultural programmes.
