Illegally dredged sand unearthed at Addoor

Mangaluru: The Department of Mines and Geology on Sunday raided a place on the banks of Gurupura River in Addoor on the outskirts of Mangaluru after a tip-off on illegal mining of sand.

K.S Nagendrappa, officer in Mines and Geology department, who was part of the raid, told newskarnataka.com that they found several persons engaged in dredging sand in the river. The raid was conducted at 12pm, he said

“There were at least four persons. All of them managed to escape by swimming on the other side of the river. Meanwhile, we nabbed Mohammad Iqbal and fined Rs 10,000”, Mr. Nagendrappa said. We will send a warning notice to others, he added.
