Bantwal : Bantwal Rural Police who detected a case of  sand mining right from the sea bed under the bridge, have  seized two sand laden lorries  on December 11, Wednesday. The lorries were later released after collecting a penalty amount.

The illegal sand mining was noticed beneath the Manihalla bridge near here. Acting on a tip off the Bantwal Rural Police led by SI Nagaraj raided the place and seized the lorries.

However, surprisingly, some justification is coming for the sand transportation from the Bantwal Revenue Department sources which have said the sand is being transported for the works of the Namma Grama Namma Rasthe Scheme.

But, the public are questioning as to how far is it proper  for the department to defend violation of rules by mining sand  using a JCB within a radius of 100 meters from the bridge. There is also an allegation that the sand mining business was underway in the area with due political patronage.
