Mangaluru: Rocket Moda, the renowned Kambala buffalo, which enjoyed an iconic status in its field is no more. He died due to age-related ailments on Tuesday, leaving scores of fans in tears.

The 20-year-old buffalo went on to become a hero of the traditional sport because of his style and speed and remained to be so over the last 15 years.

The buffalo of Pairu breed, original from Kota created a record in 2014 by completing 144 mts in Mere 13.57 seconds. He had bagged over 100 medals, making him an undisputed king of this sport. His proud mentor Srikanth Bhat has been a great source of support in Rocket’s accomplishments.

Rocket Moda was buried with all the traditional rituals. Around 500 to 600 people took part in the final rites of Rocket Moda.
