Mangaluru: Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation D V Sadananda Gowda informed that he had already spoken with Attorney General K K Venugopal and tried his level best to protect the traditional Kambala.
As the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has filed an appeal urging the supreme court to cancel the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act Karnataka 2017 (second amendment), which has allowed the Kambala to function as usual, the members of Kambala Samiti approached D V Sadananda Gowda when he came to the city on Saturday, October 6 and urged him to protect the traditional Kambala.
After assuring of taking proper measures to protect Kambala he said that he had already communicated with Attorney General K K Venugopal in this regard. “If at all the verdict would be delivered negatively by the court, attempts will be made to form a new law in state so as to continue the traditional folk game Kambala. PETA does not know the significance of Kambala and they are blindly opposing this folk game. As Kambala is closely associated with the soil of Tulunadu, I will strive hard to protect this game”, he added.
‘MCC should immediately start its work on smart city’
While responding to a query on smart city, Gowda said, “The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) should start its work immediately on smart city projects. The union government has already released money for the smart city projects and additional amount will be released only after the completion of some work. Both state government and city corporations should take all important measures to start the work”, he added.
