Puttur: A fight between husband and wife took a tragic turn when both plunged into well on Saturday night, leading to death of the husband, at Nekkiladi-34. The wife however, survived the alleged suicide pact by clinging on to a water pipe inside the well.

The deceased is Prakash K (32), a visiting faculty of Jedikallu Women’s College. His wife Asha Shree (26) has survived. Prakash married Asha Shree from Hassan, about a year ago and the two were living at Nekkiladi-34.
The neighbours say that the couple lived happily without any obvious drift, barring some episodes where the two used to get into argument over trivial issues.
Even on May 28 evening, the two had picked up a fight, but this time, the fight claimed one life. The locals say that Prakash must have plunged into well first and he may have been followed by Asha Shree.
The neighbours living in the same property only learnt about the bitter incident on Sunday morning, when they realised that someone was pleading for help.
Locals soon gathered and pulled her out of the well. When they inquired about her husband, Asha Shree, who was in state of shock, had no clue about his whereabouts.
His bike was parked in the parking lot and his slippers were found near the well.
Suspecting that even Prakash must have plunged into the well, the locals resorted to pumping out water from the well. His body was found sunken deep inside the 30 ft well.
Asha Shree, however had said that after the fight, she slept outside the house and around mid night, when she went near the well to answer nature’s call, someone pushed her into the well.
Case has been registered.
