Mangaluru: The dept. of Mass Communication, St. Aloysius College Mangaluru, organized a seminar on Human Rights on March 31, based on the present situation of the nation .

The program was inaugurated by, Balakrishna Rai, founder president of Human Rights Federation of India (NGO), who addressed the gathering. He said, “There is a necessity of human rights in our society and that every individual must know about these rights.”
He also spoke about the frequent cases of rape and of ill-treatment, which are increasing. Knowing human values and human rights and standing up for them is the need of hour, he stressed.
He further addressed various factors such as; human rights, laws and limits, applications and how media is important and what role it plays in the society.
Vijayprasad Alva executive director of Human Rights Federation of India (NGO) also spoke about the importance of human rights. He said, “Media is considered as the 4th pillar of democracy thus media has the right to question the authority as well as has the responsibility to inform people. Media should know what and when to write and emphasize on human values”, he stated in his talk.
“If there is any problem in the society it is an individual’s rights to question about the issue. If youths follow the wrong path then very few people take responsibility to guide them, he added.
Vijayprasad asked the students to approach him when needed regarding human rights issues.
At the end of the event there was an open discussion among the audience and the delegates. Chengappa A.D, Event Guide, Vishal Nayak HOD of Mass communication, Lohith Shetty faculty of Social work dept, Pragati A.S Pujya Shetty, event co coordinators and students and faculty of social work and Mass Communication were present.
