Newskarnataka-Kasargod

Kasargod:Reliable sources have indicated that there has been an increase of hawala transactions in the state of Kerala particularly after the drastic  depreciation of rupee against the dollar.

Reports indicate that as much as Rs one crore has been seized in the  district of Kasargod alone during the past one month period. Recently, a cash of Rs 66 lakh was seized from a Kasargod man as soon as he arrived from a bus from Mumbai. Some men who were waiting in a car to collect the amount however fled the scene and the police are on the look out for them.

Police said hawala cash is transported in buses, trains and private vehicles and on most occasions  even fake currency is kept along with hawala cash so that it gets easily circulated.

Police have even detected a fake currency of Rs 500 denomination in the Rs 66 lakh cash seized recently.
