Mangaluru: Ever since the lockdown was imposed in the country, several organisations, Trusts, NGOs and private companies have been going helping the needy by providing food and other essential commodities. However, it is rare to see an individual going out on their own to help the poor and the needy. Here is a person who disbursed vegetables worth Rs 2 lakh to the residents of seven wards under the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) limits.
Ravi Shetty of Ashoknagar, who is also a manager of the HOPCOMS, is the person who has disbursed vegetables to those who have been the most affected by the lockdown. He has done this social service with the help of Bharath Kumar Jain.
Shetty made kits of five kgs of vegetables and then delivered them to selected houses of the seven corporation wards- Katipalla East, Katipall-Krishnapura, Derebail West, Dere Bail South West, Boloor, Kankanady, Valencia and Alape North. He distributed a total of 1,280 vegetable kits.
In order to select the beneficiaries of the social endeavour, and also to disburse the vegetables, Shetty enlisted the help of the local corporators.
Ravi Shetty has been serving as president of the Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava Committee of Karangalpady for the past 17 years. He also serves as treasurer of the Patla Foundation Trust, Mangaluru City Unit and VHP Mannagudda unit.
