Mangalore : A lorry driver who was responsible for a hit and run case  which  led to the death of a personnel of Mulki police station, in April this year, has been arrested by the Mulki police.

The accused is Lohith (23) hailing from Basavapur in Davangere. His lorry has also been seized by the police.

It may be recalled here that Shivarajappa (27) of Mulki station was fatally knocked down by a speeding lorry near the Bappanadu check-post when he along with two of his colleagues was inspecting vehicles.

The police who inspected the footages of the CC Camera at Hejamady located the lorry and on scrutiny of documents, gathered the mobile number of Lohith. However, he had kept his mobile phone switched off after the accident and had even removed the rear number plate. The police who noticed in the footage that the rear portion of the lorry had also been damaged, as it had hit a barricade after knocking down Shivarajappa, tracked down Lohith and arrested him.

He has been produced before the court and released on bail.
