Mangaluru: Love jihad cases are hitting news columns once again, the latest addition being one involving the daughter of a prominent leader of a Hindu organization from the coastal region. Deferring the decision to protest, Hindu organisations petitioned defense minister Nirmala Seetharaman during her official visit to the city last week to resolve the tangle, after news surfaced of a 21-year-old Hindu girl, allegedly a victim of Love Jihad returned home.

The girl, final year student of SDM Law College, had left the city with Mohammed Iqbal, a Mumbai resident, few months ago. The girl, residing in Mangaluru befriended Iqbal through Facebook some years ago, it is gathered.

The incident, which remained a closely guarded secret for some time came out in the open after the girl was brought to Mangaluru few days ago. Meanwhile, Iqbal is said to have married the girl in Mumbai through forced conversion.

On her return, the girl submitted an affidavit that she has come back on her own accord to stay with her parents. Victim being the daughter of a prominent leader of a Hindu outfit,Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal had prepared to hold mass protests, but deferred their decision owing to some public pressure.

Girl’s affidavit has been forwarded to Maharashtra police department for further investigation. Countering her claim, Iqbal too has filed a parallel complaint in Mumbai.

Few leaders from Hindu organizations met the Defense minister, who was in the city last week to resolve all cases related to ‘Love Jihad’ reported in the recent past, in the presence of local MP Nalin Kumar Kateel. They are also planning mass protests against all such incidents.
