Mangauru: Owing to increasing trend of hike in oil prices, over 28 like-minded associations under the leadership of MLC Ivan D’Souza have planned to hold a massing protest rally from Hampankatta circle to DC office on Monday, September 10, at around 10 am.
Addressing the reporters, here on Friday MLC Ivan D’Souza said that during the protest rally autorickshaws, cars and other vehicles will be pulled up to Deputy Commissioner’s office in order to highlight the problems in connection with a hike in oil prices. There is also a plan to bring bullock carts during the protest rally. As the price of cooking gas also increased rapidly, tea and coffee will be prepared in front of DC’s office using firewood. The aim of the protest rally is to draw the attention of union government and to make them aware of the problems of common people owing to hike in oil prices, he said.
Comparing the crude oil prices in the international market during the UPA government and the existing union government, the MLC said, ” the price of crude oil in the international market during the year 2014 was 108.26 dollars for a barrel and the price of petrol and diesel per litre was Rs 65 and Rs 48 respectively. Whereas the price of crude oil per barrel is now only 63 dollars, but the price of petrol and diesel per litre is Rs 81.63 and Rs 74.60 respectively. Meanwhile, it is revealed through RTI that India is exporting petrol for Rs 34 per litre to 15 foreign countries and diesel for only Rs 29 to 27 foreign countries. It clearly shows how the present union government cheating the general public by exporting petrol and diesel for fewer prices to foreign countries and collects huge money for the same petrol and diesel from the citizens of our own country. In order to please the corporate companies, Narendra Modi led union government loots the treasury of the country”, he said.
Bring oil prices under GST
Ivan D’Souza also urged with the union government to bring the oil prices under the ambit of GST. ” If the oil prices will be brought under the ambit of GST, the prices of both petrol and diesel will definitely come down at least by Rs 22 from the existing prices. Why government is not ready to bring it under GST?” he questioned.
Handbills to be disbursed and awareness programmes to be conducted
Meanwhile, pamphlets were released during the same occasion which will be disbursed in schools and colleges and also in public places in order to create awareness among the public. Awareness programmes will be conducted at various places in and around the city in the next three days, Ivan informed.
Bandh should be supported by everybody
Ivan also informed that senior leaders have already conducted a meeting in order to give a call for nationwide ‘Bharat Bandh’ on Monday. If the decision would be final, then all public should extend their support to nationwide bandh”, he stressed.
