Sullia: A gang of highway robbers were arrested by the Sullia police here on Friday, August 5. The gang is accused of waylaying the vehicles plying on State highway, threatening them and extracting money.
Rohith (21) from Kolthige village, Guru Prasad (22), Kishore(26), Shridhara Naik(32), Praveena(21), Harish(21), Ramesh(23) from Charvaka village and Harishchandra(21) from Madnur village are the arrested.
Sullia police, while patrolling the Mani-Mysuru state highway caught the gang which was attempting to extract money from vehicles owners by threatening them. The gang carried lethal weapons to scare the drivers and demand money from them. However, the police caught them red-handed and seized the jeep used for the purpose.
Police said that the gang had plans to extract large amount of money by threatening the drivers with lethal weapons. The police have registered a case in this regard. The arrested were produced in the court and have been sent to judicial custody.
