Mangalore: In a very hazardous incident a heavy branch of a tree uprooted and fell on high tension wires, bringing down two electric poles and caused chaos on Tuesday evening August 13.

The incident took place near St Theresa’s School at lower Bendur that risked the school children nearby. thankfully none of them were injured. However one side of the the  two-way route that connects to Bendoorwell junction, was barricaded to avoid any untoward occurrence.

The traffic ASI (assistant sub inspector) Rosamma  rushed to the spot and took immediate remedial  measures, although it was difficult to control the situation as the traffic was also affected for more than half an hour. The fallen wires posed a threat to the passerby as the wires were suspended in the air.

The Mescom official explained that although there were no rains, the windy weather caused the accident. He said work to clear the uprooted poles was under way and the department would install new poles by 10 pm.

The fire department also helped in clearing the situation.
