Hephsiba Rani Korlapati takes charge as MCC commissioner

Mangaluru: The long wait of over six months for a MCC commissioner is finally over. The State government on Wednesday posted Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, a 2011 cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, as the Commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation.Korlapatti will take over on Thursday.

The 27-year-old Ms. Korlapati, from Andhra Pradesh, secured the 20th rank in the All India Civil Services Examination in 2010. She passed IAS exam at the age of 24.

After serving as [Probationary] Commissioner of Mandya City Municipal Council in 2013, she became the Assistant Commissioner, Basavakalyan, Bidar. She was also Commissioner of Basavakalyan Development Board.

Koralpatti is a post-graduate in Geography from Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, she completed her graduation at the College for Women, Osmania University, Hyderabad in History, Geography and Public Administration.

Ms. Korlapati would be the second IAS officer to take charge as a regular commissioner of the corporation. Sameer Shukla, an IAS officer, was the corporation commissioner from August 8, 2008 to May 28, 2009.

After taking the charge, she told the media that she would study the ground realities in a week and work for the overall development of the city.
