Have a canine at home? Time to get a license

Mangaluru: Pet lovers wanting to buy, owning a canine need to apply for a license as per the rules laid down by the dog welfare committee of the Mangaluru civic body at it’s meeting held on February 10.

The dog licences, which is mandatory for all pet dogs in MCC limits can be availed free of cost for the first year i.e 2017-18 and from next year onwards the owners will have to dole out Rs 300 and also follow a four-point conditions laid out in the license.

The owners need to furnish all documents about periodic vaccination of their pets along with application for the license, validity of which is one year and has to be renewed annually and directives under The Animal Birth Control (Dog) Rules 2001 would have to be followed.
 
The decision was approved during the monthly and the maiden council meeting of Mayor Kavitha Sanil on Thursday.

It is gathered that the aim behind making the license compulsory is to keep a check on stray stray dog population across the city.
