Mangaluru: CID probe has been ordered into death of Mangaluru DySP M K Ganapathi suicide case. Ganapathi was found hanging from the ceiling of a hotel room in Madikeri on Thursday night.
DGP Om Prakash in a press meet has said that the reason behind the death has not yet been ascertained. Special teams have been formed to probe into the case and the teams are expected to reach Madikeri on Friday. However, DySP Ganapathi had held a press meet before committing suicide and had eloquently spoken of the harassment he was facing in the department, specially at the hands of a minister. This is now being held as the reason behind his extreme step.
In his interview to a particular news channel, Ganapathi had spelled out the name of an influential politician of Siddu Cabinet whose name was earlier making rounds after IAS officer DK Ravi death case.
A senior officer on conditions of anonymity said that Ganapathi’s suicide could be linked to a realtor close to a former home minister. The officer said that a few day ago Ganapathi was under pressure to help the real estate developer close to former home minister. The senior officer was of the opinion that Ganapathi was fed up of the unholy nexus between the men in Khaki and the realtors and had even opposed the same.
Ganapathi hailed from Kodagu district and had worked in the past as SI of Kadri station in Mangaluru.
Gallant officer
“It is shocking that Ganapathi committed suicide. He was an honest, gallant and capable officer. He had all the commendable and admirable qualities of any officer and gentleman from Kodagu. It is really a shame that such an honest and gallant officer was driven to such a situation,” former Director General and Inspector General of Police Shankar M?Bidari said adding that Ganapathi was punished for being upright.
Ganapathi began his career in 1991 as a sub-inspector. He was involved in an encounter with a rowdy while he was the Yeshwantpur inspector in the city. He was suspended when he was the Rajagopalnagar inspector on the charge of pocketing the money that he had recovered from a thief. He had also faced a departmental inquiry for misusing a seized property when he was Madivala inspector.
