Mangaluru: The couple that ransacked a builder’s residence in Derebail limits on July 2 has been nabbed by the city police and cash and gold ornaments stolen were recovered from the duo.
The accused Ambanna Basappa Jadar alias Ambarish, aged 25 and Rashida alias Qazi aged 23 both residents of Navalgund in Dharwad district were nabbed by the city police team. The police managed to arrest the duo following a tip off that the accused duo was on a lookout for a rented accommodation in Kulai area.
In the incident that took place on July 2nd the accused duo had broken the safe lockers of an almirah and Managed to escape with Rs 18 lakhs in cash and 3 mobile phones . Soon after the incident builder P Narasimha Rao had lodged a complaint at the the Kavur police station.
The CCTV footages clearly showed that the accused were the security guard and maid in builder’s residence. Police team was formed led by ACP Uday Naik to nab the accused.
The police launched a hunt for the accused and managed to arrest duo at 11.30 AM on July 8th and recovered Rs 17, 38,000 in cash, few gold and silver ornaments purchased after the theft. On interrogation the duo accepted to have committed the crime.
The police said that Ambanna Basappa Jadar was involved in the murder of a person in Hubli and was jailed. He had escaped from the police while being taken to hospital. He was involved in lifting two-wheelers as well for which he was convicted. Soon after completing the jail term, he landed upon the advertisement given by the city based builder for which he came to Mangaluru. The police also informed that Ambanna Basappa Jadar and Rashida alias Qazi were not wife and husband.
Given the background of Ambanna Basappa Jadar, further investigation is going on to check whether the accused was involved in more cases in the past, police said.
The police have cautioned the city residents to employ security guard and maids after verifying their personal details like voter ID card and Aaadhar Card and request for police verification to know their antecedents to prevent such incidents in future. They have also advised the residents to install CCTV cameras at prime locations in buildings as well as houses which will help in cracking cases of this kind.
Police inspector MA Nataraj, Sub inspector Umesh Kumar , Assistant Sub Inspector Vanajakshi and six police personnel assisted in nabbing the duo and in recovering stolen cash and ornaments.
