Kasargod: Two persons were arrested by the Kasargod police in connection with illegal transportation of gold weighing 1.25kg in a bus.

Abdul Kunhi(22) from Koliadka and Mohammaed Rafiq(28) a resident of Melbaramba were arrested for carrying smuggled gold by deceiving custom officials at Mangalore airport.

They had arrived at the airport from Sharjah on Thursday. After duping officials they were heading towards Kasargod through Sullia in a KSRTC bus.

On receipt of confirmed information,  police arrested the accused and recovered gold worth Rs 35 lacs which was hidden inside the cover of four suitcases in the form of sheets.

After interrogation it is also found that the accused had transported smuggled gold earlier too.

Irrespective of safety measures and the strict actions taken by the customs officials, increase in such cases is suspicious.
