Gold smuggling: Absconding accused held after 21 years

Kasargod: The cops have arrested an accused who was absconding for the last 21 years in connection with smuggling huge amount of gold.

The arrested Sainuddin Mohammad(50), is a reisdent of Ponnangal in Bayaru in Uppala.

He was arrested in Mumbai airport in 1994 for allegedly smuggling gold worth Rs 41 lakhs from abroad.

However he was granted bail and from then on he was absconding abroad for 8 long years. A few days back he had come to his native place to attend a relative’s wedding. On credible information, Kasargod DYSP Ranjith and team arrested the accused.

Mumbai police had sought help from Kasargod police to nab the accused. The accused will be handed over to Mumbai police tomorrow, said police sources.
