Mangaluru: City-based social activist, Gerard Towers has been awarded ‘Best person with pro-people concern’ by the television news channel, Mirror Now.

Towers is known for his unique protests against civic problems the people are forced to face. He is one among five active citizens, selected by Mirror Now, who strive to solve civic and social problems. The other four persons who received the same award are Sunil Chakraborty, Piyush Saha, Ayush Gupta and Akanksha Varma.

It can be noted that Towers has been protesting against various issues for several years now. It can be also noted that he had effectively highlighted the BBMP’s irresponsibilities on the Mirror Now news channel after a couple fell in a pothole and died in Bengaluru a few years ago. He had also struggled to get the survivors of the couple compensation from the civic body.

Gerard Towers is also a member of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Civic Group and an RTI activist. It can be recalled that when the MCC resorted water rationing a few months ago due to a shortage of water in the Thumbe vented dam, he had organised a half-nude protest in front of the MCC, mocking them saying that the people have bathed in days due to the lack of water.
