Mulky: A gang waylaid a private bus and assaulted the driver and conductor at Kolnad near here on Saturday night. The injured have been admitted to a private hospital.

According to sources, a fight erupted between the conductor of Sri Manjunath Travels Shaiq and a person named Irfan, hailing from Kolnad. During this, Irfan is said to have challenged Shaiq that he would take the latter to task at his native soon.

When the bus reached Kolnad on Saturday, a gang comprising 30 members led by Irfan pulled Shaiq out of the bus and started beating him. In a bid to prevent this, driver Salman intervened, who in turn got beaten up too. Irfan was working as a conductor in a few buses earlier, it is learnt.

A case has been filed against Irfan at the local police station.

The bus drivers association members have threatened of a bus strike if immediate action is not taken against him.
