Sullia: The future of five government schools in Suliia Taluk remains uncertain as the student strength is less than 10 students in each school.

The result may be closure of school. The students from these schools will be admitted to nearby schools and teachers too will be appointed elsewhere.
During the Taluk Panchyath meeting, chaired by the President Chaniya Kaltadka the issue of five schools came up for discussion. The Block Education Officer B.S.Kemparangappa present in the meeting made it clear that in each school if the student strength falls below 10 the schools have to be closed as per the government order.
At present there are five schools in Sullia taluk with less than 10 students and are likely to be closed in the near future. The students and the teachers of those schools will be moved to nearby schools where student strength is healthy.
The officials were instructed to convene a meeting of peoples’ representatives and villagers before shutting down the existing schools.
In addition, the officials were asked to prepare a report and make a list of schools which require immediate repair works, especially those which are very old and on the verge of collapse.
Revenue officials taken to task
The revenue officials were taken to task by the TMC authorities as there were many complaints pertaining to refusal to issue title deeds to the eligible beneficiaries though land is allotted to them under 94C program. It was felt that the decisions were taken without the knowledge of peoples’ representatives and the people concerned. The revenue officials in response said, out of the 5377 applications received, 1350 have been cleared and 768 have been rejected. Revenue officials were also asked to look into the complaints with regard to widow pension scheme, ration card and Sandhya Suraksha schemes.
Drinking Water projects and Roads crying for attention
Standing committee member Radhakrishna who raised multiple issues said, the government funding for drinking water remains only on paper as there are no funds to execute the projects. He said, though the TMC has submitted a proposal for Rs 7 crore, they have not received any amount till date. In addition, only a sum of Rs 3 crore has been allotted for other projects, while the outlay was Rs 6 crore.
Confirmed Dengue cases
The Taluk health officer said there are 30 confirmed dengue cases in government primary health centres in Sullia tauk and there are 15 cases more cases outside in private hospitals. He conveyed that sufficient measures have been taken to control the spread of Dengue.
