Bantwal: Four chain snatchers have been arrested by Bantwal police and have recovered two bikes and gold worth Rs 2 lacs.
District police commissioner Bhushan G Borase in a press meet said that Numan (20) from Balluru Gudde in Kannur, Shabhaz (19) from Kannur Bidu, Shabhaz (20) from Kannur Kundala and Thousif (23) from Pudu village have been arrested. The accused used to snatch gold chains from women in Bantwal, Vittal and Punjalakatte area.
The accused had stolen two bikes from Adyad Padav and Kannur checkpost and were using it for chain snatching purposes.
Police while checking near Benjanapadav arrested Numan and Thousif. While interrogated by police, they revealed about the thefts and hence arrested rest of the accused.
Numan is already facing 7 theft cases and was out on bail. The police have recovered bikes, a knife and the gold from the accused. The thieves had not sold any stolen gold instead had kept it safely at home.
Bantwal DySP Raveesh C R, inspector B K Manjayya, ASI Rakshith were part of the operation. The SP has announced reward for the police and the staff for their successful operation.
