Four arrested in Basheer attack case: Commissioner T R Suresh

Mangaluru: The CCB police have arrested have four persons in connection with the assault on Basheer at Kottara Chowki on January 3.

Shrijith PK (25) resident of Uppala Kasargod, Kishan Poojary(21) resident of Padil, Dhanush Poojary(22) resident of  from Padil, and Sandesh Kotian resident of Manjeshwara are the arrested.

Addressing a press meet here on January 6, City Police Commissioner T R Suresh said that all the accused had come for Garodi Temple Festival. Shrijith has over 6 cases registered against him under the IPC sections 373, 308, 160, 107, 392 in the limits of Kasargod and Mangaluru City Police Station limits. Whereas Kishan is facing three cases, Dhanush, an assault case at Kankanady station and another accused Sandesh, one case against him at Badiyadka station. The commissioner also revealed that all the accused were right wing activists.

Commissioner also said, “It is gathered from the investigation, the attack on Basher was retaliation for Deepak Rao’s murder in Surthkal. We have already opened rowdy-sheet against Kishan Poojary and Dhanush Poojary”.

It may be recalled that the assault on Basheer took place hours after Deepak Rao was hacked to death in broad daylight in Kaatipala area. Basheer, who suffered critical head injuries in the assault has been undergoing treatment at A J Hospital.
