Mangaluru: As the people of undivided Dakshina Kannada district and Uttara Kannada district prefer boiled rice instead of white rice, the Karnataka State Commission for Food and Civil Supplies likely to recommend to the government the provision of boiled rice, while disbursing ration.

Dr. Krishnamurthy, Chairman of State Commission for Food and Civil Supplies, speaking to the reporters at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Saturday, February 2, said, “The commission would recommend providing boiled rice instead of white rice as most of the people here in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada district prefer boiled rice only. As people refuse to buy toor dal, there is a plan to replace toor dal with millet”, he said.

The co-operative societies which disburse ration to the public usually keep their shutters closed during Sundays. When reporters brought this to his notice, Krishnamurthy said that he would also report to the government in order to keep the shop open during Sundays as people engage in work throughout the week and they prefer to buy ration on this Sunday.

The commission had visited the hostels and the office of the food department in five taluks in Dakshina Kannada district in order to examine the system in Dakshina Kannada district. Krishnamurthy expressed his pleasure over the system and informed that more preference has been given to cleanliness in DK district when compared to the other districts.

Zilla Panchayath Chief Executive Officer Selvamani E, food commission members V B Patil, D G Hasabi, Manjula and B A Mohammed Ali were present.
