Flood-hit families that lost houses to get Rs 7 lakhs each

Sulia: Families that lost their houses due to recent heavy rain and landslides will be given Rs 7 lakh compensation each to build new houses, said Minister For Food and Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs, Minority Welfare and Waqf, Zameer Ahmed Khan on Wednesday, October 3.

Zameer Ahmed Khan visited Jodupala and Monnageri village for inspection-both villages were completely destroyed due to the recent calamity.

Speaking to the reporters after his inspection, he informed that 164 new BPL cards will be issued for those families who lost their BPL cards.

“The last date for submitting an online application for ration card has been extended to the end of this month. The biometrics system has been adopted, to stop the misuse of the ration items that are been sent by the government. Since the installation of biometrics system in distributing ration items, the government had saved Rs 580 crore,” he added

He further said, “Masjids transferred to Wakf can be funded, as Rs 35 crore is allotted for Wakf. The demand for additional Rs 100 crores has been submitted to the Government”

The government is seriously considering the destruction of arecanut farms in several parts of the Dakshina Kannada district. Discussions about the funds to be released as compensation for the destruction of these platations is underway, said Zameer.
