Five achievers including Prasanna Heggodu to get Sandesha award

Mangaluru: The prestigious Sandesha Award-2019 will be presented to five achievers including Prasanna Heggodu for their contributions in their respective fields.

The awarding ceremony will be organised at the Bajjodi premises of Sandesha Foundation on January 22.

The recipients are Prasanna Heggodu (Literature), Manjamma Jogathi (Art), B M Haneef (Media), B M Rohini (Education) and Fr. Britto Prabhu (Konkani music). The Sandesha special recognition award will be presented to Snehasadan and Jeevandaan, the HIV/Aids care and rehabilitation centres, located in Gurupura.

The award comprises a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a trophy, certificate and citation. The awards ceremony will be presided over by Bishop of Bellary Diocese Henry D’Souza. Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister U T Khader, Mangaluru Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha and Udupi Bishop Fr. Jerald Isaac Lobo will be the chief guests at the same programme.

Awardees’ profile

Prasanna Heggodu, a resident of Shivamogga is a writer, columnist, poet, novelist, theatre director and playwright. He is famous for his dramas and street plays. He has received many awards and honours for his poems, novels and dramas.

Another recipient Manjamma Jogathi has composed many dramas and Jogathi dances. In the year 2010, she received the Karnataka Rajyotsava award also. Now, she is a member of the Karnataka Folklore Academy.

Another achiever, who will be receiving the award for his contribution towards media field is B M Haneef. He has been serving in media field from the past 34 years. His passions also include writing short stories, poems and articles.

B M Rohini is a Hindi teacher for the past 30 years and she has been engaged in writing articles and research. In the year 2016, she was felicitated with Veerarani Abbakka award.

Another recipient Fr. Ben Britto Prabhu has served as a director in various educational institutions and priest in many parishes and churches. He is a famous singer and has composed 39 religious songs in Konkani, English and Latin languages.

Sandesha Special Recognition award will be given to Snehasadan and Jeevandaan, HIV rehabilitation centres.

Snehasadan was established in the year 2000 and is run by the Camilian religious sisters which was established in the year 2004. There are about 28 boys, 10 adults, 20 children, 27 girls and 25 women who are under the care of Sneha Sadan and Jeevandaan.
