Mangaluru: Three persons including a minor were arrested by the City Crime Branch sleuths near Someshwar bus stand in connection with the recent killing of fisherman Raju Kotian in Kotepura in the city.
Mohammed Aswir(19), Abdul Mutalib(20) both residents of Ullal and a juvenile were arrested by the police officials.
According to police sources, two more accused in the case are still absconding.
It may be recalled that fisherman Raju Kotian was found dead with his face smashed and other injuries near Kotepura on April 12.
Suspecting murder, the entire Mogaveera community held a massive protest in front of the Ullal police station and set a deadline of 24 hours to nab the culprits.
The arrests were made by the CCB team led by Inspector Valentine D’Souza including ACP Kalyan Shetty, Inspector Ashok P, Dinaker Shetty, and PSIs Shyamsunder, Bharati and Rajendra.
CCTV footage helped the police to nab the culprits. Five people were seen fleeing in the footage. Around ten suspects were arrested by the police. During questioning it was revealed that five people were invloved in the murder.
Official sources said that they had murdered Raju with an intention to trigger communal riots. While the three of them dont have any criminal records against them, one among the two absconding is said to be having a criminal background.
