Fisherman murder case: CCB arrests another accused

Mangaluru: Another accused in connection with the recent murder case of fisherman Raju Kotian has been arrested by the sleuths of the CCB on April 19. This is the fourth arrest in this case.

It may be recalled that fisherman Raju Kotian was found dead with his face smashed and other injuries, near Kotepura on April 12.

Suspecting murder, the entire Mogaveera community held a massive protest in front of the Ullal police station and set a deadline of 24 hours to nab the culprits.

Earliet three persons Mohammed Aswir(19), Abdul Mutalib(20) both residents of Ullal and a juvenile were arrested by the CCB team led by Inspector Valentine D’Souza including ACP Kalyan Shetty, Inspector Ashok P, Dinaker Shetty, and PSIs Shyamsunder, Bharati and Rajendra.

CCTV footage helped the police to nab the culprits. Five people were seen fleeing in the footage. Around ten suspects were nabbed by the police. During questioning it was revealed that five people were involved in the murder.

It is learnt that they had murdered Raju with an intention to trigger communal riots. While the three of them don’t have any criminal records against them, one among the two absconding is said to be having a criminal background.

Now, the police have launched a manhunt for the two other accused who are at large.
