Newskarnataka-Moodbidri
Moodbidri : Every creature has a right to live on its own on this earth. None have the authority to snatch this right. Today, each and everyone of us have to pledge to protect the culture of the land as well as its flora and fauna, said Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.
He was speaking as a chief guest at the inaugural of Sammilan Shetty’s Butterfly Park at Belvai which is 8 kms away from the town of Moodbidri on the Karkala-Moodbidri route, on August 18, Sunday morning.
Continuing, Kateel said it is a matter of great pride that a private butterfly park has come up for the first time in the state and hoped it would inspire and motivated young minds at a time when environment and nature is at risk in the coastal district where mega projects are proposed.
Isaac Kehmikar, General Manager, Programmes-Bombay Natural History Society, who inaugurated the park, said India was host to around 1500 species of butterflies and added there are over 350 species of the winged beauties in Western Ghats alone. IT is significant that over 100 species of butterflies are found in Belvai area, he said and hailed the efforts made by Sammilan in protecting the species.
