Belthangady: In a rather first of its kind feat, Laila Gram Panchayat here, which has scripted history by taking up outstanding developmental projects in the past, has now donned yet another feather on its glorious cap.

The latest achievement of the GP is that it has received an ISO certification, an assessment and certification that is usually presented to giant companies and commercial set ups for their quality. With this, Laila GP happens to be first in Karnataka to have this certification.
The Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat sent in a recommendation for the certification on experimental basis and it chose Laila for the same as Laila is ahead of other GPs in terms of performance and services provided to its people.
The GP has hit headline with outstanding performance in implementation of Total Sanitation Campaign, waste management, compost plant using waste collected from the GP limits, setting up sanitary pad production unit etc in the past.
However, about 50 per cent of Gram Panchayats in Kerala have the International Standards Organisation certification.
