Mangaluru: Eminent Tulu and Kannada movie makers have blended their ideas together to make a Kannada movie which revolves around a Yakshagana artiste. It would be the first time in India where a whole film is dedicated to ‘Yakshagana’ form of art.

‘Banna Bannada Baduku (A Colourful Life)’ is a story that revolves around a Muslim individual who aspires to be a Yakshagana artiste. The protagonist’s role played by model turned actor Raviraj Shetty goes through a series of trauma from the Hindu and Muslim communities who forbid him from being a Yakshagana artiste due to community constraints which carries on to the climax.
An active Tulu and Beary tele serial Director, Ismail Mudushedde has directed his first movie. Krishna Naik Karkala saw the potential in the movie and produced it. The movie cast has four child actors and several Tulu and Kannada actors. The movie has also cast Mangalurean model Anvitha Sagar and former Mayor Shashidhar Hegde as well.
“A mix of tragedy, drama, real life experiences and music makes it a complete movie for every member of a family. I saw potential in the movie after Ismail Mudushedde showed me how good the movie can be through what he had in mind. We believed that there is no religion for colours and everyone can be an artiste regardless of his/her caste or creed,” Krishna Naik said while speaking to the media and film crew on Thursday, September 29.
Krishna also recalled that all the artistes who were filmed are real Yakshagana artistes and the shooting took place in real Yakshagana venues. The other scenes were shot at various locations in and around Mangaluru city. Shots of Pilikula, Arkula, Theerthahalli, Kuloor and other places can be seen in the movie.
Established musicians and singers from Dakshina Kannada have composed music for the movie. Lahari Music productions have worked for the music under the guidance of A K Vijay (Kokila). Patla Sathish Shetty, M D Pallavi, Raveendra Prabhu and Vidya Sharad each have sung a song which will be included in the movie. The audio release function will be held at the Town Hall on October 5 at 5pm.
