Mangaluru: A major fire engulfed a furniture industry at Konchady here on Monday, February 1.

Three schools which were operating in a building adjacent to the industry were englufed by the fire. The teachers immediately rushed all students out in time and fortunately, no casualties were reported.

The fire broke out on the first floor of the Bhagyajyothi Industries and Emerald Décor. It is situated adjacent to Vidya Nursery School, Vidya High School and Indira Gandhi Memorial School in the city.

While it is said that a short circuit could have caused the mishap, some workers here said that sparks during welding ignited the fire.

Assets worth around Rs 15 lakh were charred in the fire.
