Mangaluru: Shortly before the Health and Family Welfare Minister U.T Khader and Medical Education Minister Sharana Prakash Rudrappa could reach Wenlock Hospital for inspection, fire broke out at the Computed Tomography (CT) scan room of the hospital around 12pm on Friday.

District Surgeon at Wenlock Hospital Rajeshwari Devi said the fire appeared in Air Conditioner, which was placed inside the CT scan room, while the patient was undergoing treatment. We got the fire extinguishers to douse the flames. For at least fifteen minutes, the entire room was filled with smoke”, she said.

She further said that we have asked the Company representatives of CT scan Machine to see if the machine has been affected. We will not use the machine until the issue is rectified. Till then, we will ask Kasturba Medical College (KMC) support for patients to undergo CT scan freely, she informed.

Meanwhile, the two ministers reached the hospital as per the protocol. They examined the room and asked the in-charge to take necessary steps.

“The fire broke out due to short circuit in the AC. Besides, no one was injured”, District surgeon said.
