Mangaluru: The wholesale fruit and vegetable vendors who were running their business in Central Market area have shifted to APMC yard in Baikampady, on Wednesday, April 8.
Though the vendors had initially expressed their reluctance to relocate to the APMC area on the grounds that the new location holds bleak promise of good business for them, they relented later.
The Mangaluru City Corporation has meanwhile decided to pull down the old Central Market building, which is in pathetic condition.
MCC officials and MP Nalin Kumar Kateel had held meeting with the wholesale dealers leaders and convinced them to shift to the APMC yard in Baikampady as there was no way they could carry on their business if the old building is demolished.
The meeting was fruitful and the wholesalers decided to listen to what the authorities had to say.
Wholesale dealers association president Mohammed Mustafa informed that the dealers agreed to shift their vending activities as it was inevitable.
It can be also noted that the MCC has already directed retail dealers of fruits and vegetables to purchase only from APMC yard in Baikampady and that their trade license will be permanently cancelled if they fail to abide by this rule.
