Puttur: A degree student from a college in the city has been arrested by police for circulating a false Whatsapp message that a lecturer of a private college in Puttur has died after suffering a stroke.

The arrested has been identified as Vinuth from Bantwal taluk. He is currently pursuing his B.Com. It is said that the student had first sent a fake message to one of his groups on Whatsapp which then got circulated till it reached the relatives and friends of the lecturer who rushed to his residence late night. Realizing that it was prank played by someone, the lecturer lodged a complaint at Puttur Town Police Station.

Inspector Mahesh Prasad who investigated the case, arrested Vinuth. It was later revealed that Vinuth did the prank to avenge what the lecturer did to him while he was doing his PU at Puttur college. Vinuth reportedly confessed that he had then approached the lecturer to enquire about the Teachers Day celebration who out rightly rejected Vinuth’s suggestion.
