Mangaluru:Prof H Pattabhirama Somayaji, retd prof of Mangaluru university college, passed away due to heart attack in his mansion in Derebail of Mangaluru this morning, Somayaji was a renowned professor who served as a prof for English in the university.

Prof H Pattabhirama Somayaji. He mastered in English Literature under guidance of Dr. U.R. Ananthmurthy- renowned writer, winner of Jnanpith Award and International Man Booker Prize.

“Somayaji often encouraged students towards activism for good cause, he was very vocal in many agitations, fought for human rights and against the fascism, he was Few years back, he was even smeared with Cow Dung. He usually used to receive death threats for his vocal stand against the regime.” Student said

“He even published his writings in newspapers like Vartha Bharathi, Lankesh Patrike etc.” the student added further.
