Mangaluru: Deputy Chief Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, who was in the city to inaugurate the IMA Board Committee 2019-20, surprised many by visiting the Ideal Ice Cream Parlour at GHS Road, on Thursday, October 31.
The DCM, who completed his MBBS degree at KMC in 1995, still craves for his favourite ice cream ‘Gadbud’ and so, he visited Ideal’s to relive his college days. At the ice cream parlour, he relished a Gadbud, Marzi Paan and a slice of iPizza.
Ideal Ice Cream owners Prabhakar Kamath, Mukund Kamath, MLAs Rajesh Naik, Dr Y Bharath Shetty, local television channel managing director and member of Dental Council of India Dr Shivasharan K also got to relish the ice creams with the DCM, possibly oblivious of the latter’s connection to Mangaluru city.
While speaking with Mukund Kamath, Narayan said that, during his college days in KMC-Mangaluru, they didn’t get Ideal Ice Cream in their cafeteria. Narayan, as a medical student who craved Ideal ice creams then, wanted to introduce the same in their cafeteria. To this end, he had approached Mukund’s father, Prabhakar Kamath and convinced him to serve their ice crams in the KMC’s canteen.
Ideal Ice creams are famous not only among Mangaloreans but even among people living in other parts of the state. They are the largest ice cream manufacturers in Mangaluru with an 80% market share. One of their outlets at Market Road is considered to be India’s third-largest ice cream parlour.
