Mangalore: The Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Shripad Naik, recently asked the State government to forward the long-standing proposal of the much-delayed Tannirbhavi skywalk (hanging bridge), to the Union government.

The Rs. 12-crore, 410m-long skywalk across the Gurupura has been stuck with both the State Tourism and Public Works Department passing the file to each other.

A foundation stone to commence the work on the long-pending suspension pedestrian bridge between Sultan Battery and Tannirbhavi was laid in August 2010, by the then Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa after sanctioning Rs. 12 crore for the project.

A year later in 2011 another inaugural was held by Deputy Speaker N. Yogish Bhat, that symbolized the commencement of the work related to the bridge. He has been a strong advocate of the project.

However  even after this the work has been suspended after the erection of a few piers.

Naik urged State ministers B. Ramanath Rai and S.R. Patil to send the project details to the Union government and said, “I will ensure it is sanctioned as soon as possible,” he said.
