Mangaluru: Hours after RSS leader Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat’s remarks against the Model Election Code of Conduct, election commission officers have booked a case against him for violation of the election code of conduct. The case was registered in the Konaje police station limits under section 153(A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 125 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Prabhkar Bhat had asked the public to disregard the model code of conduct for elections at the indefinite hunger strike, organised under the leadership of T G Jayaram Bhat in Kairangala on Thursday April 5, against the cattle theft reported at Amruthadhare Gauashrama in Punyakotinagara.

Speaking to media, Mahesh Kharjegi, election returning officer for Mangaluru Constituency said that already the election commission’s flying squad have collected Prabhkar Bhat’s speech footage and sent it for examination. In the examination, if Bhat found guilt by violating Model election Code of Conduct, a case will be booked against him.

“Model election code of conduct is part of Indian constitution. Showing disregard to it is equal to showing disregard to the constitution. It is duty of citizen to adhere to it during elections. To conduct free fair elections is our intention”, Kharjegi added.
