Mangaluru: A video of an elderly man abusing the traffic police for stopping his car during the ongoing lockdown in the city has gone viral on social media.
The elderly man, who violated the lockdown guidelines and prevented the police from conducting their duty, has been identified as Suresh Rao, a resident of the PVS area in Kodialbail.
In the video footage, the traffic police are seen stopping the man’s car at Lalbhag on Thursday evening for violating the lockdown guidelines. Rao begins abusing the policemen for stopping his car. When the traffic police ask him to produce his vehicle’s documents, Rao abuses them with foul language.
Later, Rao left the spot in his car. The viral video has received a mixed response from the people on social media. While some have defended the police, others have spoken in favour of the elderly man, claiming that he suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.
It is said that Rao’s children are abroad and that he left his house without the knowledge of his wife, who is also a senior citizen.
A case has been registered against Rao for violating the lockdown guidelines and obstructing the police from conducting their duties.
