Mangaluru: Bantwal ASP and DCIB police team cracked down on a honeytrap and blackmailing case within four days of the incident taking place.
Addressing a press meet at the SPs office here on Friday, Dr Sharanappa said that a special case has been cracked and 8 people have been arrested. There are 4 more suspects involved in this case who will be arrested soon.
The arrested are Mohammad Asif(25), a resident of Goliyangady, Abdul Latheef(36), Sabeer(25), Aboobakkar Siddiq(21), Sulaiman(35), Abdul Majeed(22), Hasim(25) and Zareena(27) all from Belthangady.
On July 27, Abdul Basheer who recently came from abroad to his native got a call from Asif Goliyangady. Asif who knew Basheer allegedly told him to drop a woman from Belthangady to Ujire. So Basheer hired a rickshaw that belonged to his friend Mohammad Haris and was on the way to Ujire along with the woman.
According to the police, the group allegedly stopped the rickshaw and kidnapped them in a Ritz car and Bolero jeep followed by assault. Later they captured a photograph and video of Basheer and Haris along with the woman and demanded 10 lakhs. They threatened to circulate the photo through Whatsapp and file a rape case on them if Basheer fails to give them the cash and kept Basheer and Haris in a secluded place near Nainad in Venur.
The culprits pre-planned the incident and robbed a passport, 2 cell phones, an Auto rickshaw, Rs 4,500 cash and also demanded Rs 10 lakh in cash.
A case was registered at Belthangady police station. One special team comprising of Bantwal ASP and DCIB staff was formed to crack the case.
Under the direction of Dakshina Kannada superintendent of police Dr Sharanappa SD, additional superintendent of police Vincent Shanthakumar, Bantwal ASP Rahul Kumar, Belthangady circle inspector Lingappa B R, DCIB PSI Manjula, ASI Sanjeeva Purusha, Udaya Rai, Palanivelu, Iqbal A I, Taranatha S, Vasunaik Bantwal rural station, Praveen Rai Vittal police station, ASI Kalaimar, Praveena, Pramodini, Venkatesh from Belthangady station, Viajaya, Rohinath from Venoor station, drivers Vasu Naik and Sathya Prakash were involved in the operation.
DG and IGP of the state and Bengaluru police commissioner have appreciated the team for cracking the case in just four days and announced a cash reward to the entire team involved in the case.
When asked about the Sundar Malekudiya murder attempt case, SP said that Bantwal ASP and local police have taken the case seriously. One person has been arrested and two teams have been formed to arrest those who are absconding in this case.
SP said that the police have successfully nabbed all the five accused in Jayananda Gowda murder case, on Thursday. He said that Jayananda was killed by his own wife, with help of her alleged lover Dhananya Poojary, resident of Panja. Earlier there was a murder attempt by Leela and Dhananjay who planned an accident and accordingly, on May 17, 2015, Jayananda’s bike was knocked down by a Jeep. However, Jayananda had escaped the mishap with injuries.
