Mangaluru: The Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre in Mukka launched the EEG Machine (electroencephalogram) on Monday, December 17.

Katipalla Jumma Masjid President Mohammed Ameen inaugurated the machine in the presence of Chancellor of A Srinivas University A Raghavendra Rao and Dr. A Srinivas Rao, Pro Chancellor, Srinivas University. This sophisticated equipment allows for a non-invasive monitoring of electrical activity of the brain and is very useful in the diagnosis of various neurological conditions.

Three new consultant superspecialists Dr. Deepak Suraparaju, Neurosurgeon, Dr. Sudesh Shetty, Consultant Cardiologist and Dr. Adil M Ali, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon were enrolled to the institution. Meanwhile, a Christmas and New Year gift offer of executive health check-up at discounted tariff was launched.

Speaking to the mediapersons, Chancellor A Raghavendra Rao said, “Under this offer, the standard executive health check-up will be available at Rs 4000 instead of the normal tariff of Rs 5000. The executive health check-up will enable people to get complete health status update with a comprehensive blood test, sugar test, kidney profile, lipid profile, liver function test, urine examination, TSH, calcium, phosphorus, E.C.G., ECHO and colour Doppler, TMT, chest X-ray, ultrasound abdomen, physician evaluation with reports. This will in turn help in preserving and promoting good health while allowing for early detection of the unhealthy condition. This offer is valid from 17 December 2018 to 3 January 2019”, he informed.

What is Electroencephalography?
Informing about the benefits of electroencephalography, he said, “Electroencephalogram (EEG) is used to detect electrical activity arising in the cerebral cortex. The EEG involves placing electrodes on the scalp to record the amplitude and frequency of the resulting waveforms. In recent years, digital technology has allowed longer, cleaner EEG recordings that can be analysed in a number of ways and recorded alongside a contemporaneous video of any clinical ‘event.’

EEG continues to play a central role in the diagnosis and management of patients with seizure disorders. EEC now functions in conjunction with the remarkable variety of other diagnostic techniques developed over the last 30 or so years. It is a convenient and relatively inexpensive way to demonstrate the physiological manifestations of abnormal cortical excitability that underlie epilepsy”, he added.

Dean Uday Kumar Rao and Medical Superintendent Dr. K S Arif were present.
