Mangaluru: In an unfortunate incident, a DYFI activist has been trolled and abused on social media for supporting the candidature of CPI(M) member Munir Katipalla in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Shruthi Kotian posted a message on Facebook, supporting the candidature of Munir Katipalla from the Mangaluru North constituency. On her post, an account under the name Harish Raj posted an abusive comment in Tulu.

The accused, Harish Raj commented on the post saying “Oh Ponne Nikk saibanaklenane aavoda…Thuyare dikkedi leka ulla, E encha kotian aayadhe..” (Hey girl you want Muslims’ only? You look like a Dalit, How did you become a Kotian?).

Shruthi filed a police complaint on February 20 against Harish Raj, for abusing and trolling her on Facebook.

Speaking to Newskarnataka.com, DYFI State Convener Munir Katipalla said that this was a strategy against those who don’t accept the right wing ideology, where people are being trolled on social media. “The abuse against Shruthi on Facebook is to curb her voice. The attitude of these people against the Dalits is also evident. Suppression of Dalits still prevails”, he lamented.

Shruthi, speaking to Newskarnataka, said that she was an active member of SFI and presently she worked as DYFI joint secretary in Urwa.

The Urwa Police have registered a complaint under IPC 505 and 507.
