Mangaluru: A drunk retired police officer violated traffic guidelines, which left two injured, on the late night of Saturday, January 26.

According to the sources, Mithra Heraje, the retired cop was riding his car from Circuit House to Bejai in the wrong lane at 12 midnight and on reaching Bhattagudda he rammed the car into a motorcycle. As the result, the duo on the motorcycle suffered severe injuries.

The angry locals took the former cop to task. It is said that the Kadri jurisdictional police had to resort to mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd.

Later, the police detained Mithra Heraje. He was serving as the chairman of the retired police officers’ association.
