Udupi :Dr Ravindranath Shanbhag, President of the Human Rights Foundation of Udupi  has  said that the High Court need to clarify on the 60 per cent disability criterion fixed to identify a patient as a victim of the deadly pesticide Endosulfan.

Speaking at a workshop on the Endosulfan menace, Dr Shanbhag said  the criterion is considered  differently in different districts. Pointing out that there are pension schemes to Endosulfan victims in three levels, viz those with less than 25 per cent disability, 25 to 60 per cent disability and above 60 per cent disability, Dr Shanbhag said those falling in the last category are entitled for Rs 3000 monthly pension.

He stated that in some districts those falling in the first two categories too are getting an equivalent pension while in some districts only those with above 60 per cent disability are provided pension.

He further said the confusion in the government departments regarding the  disabilities of the patient  has many a time deprived many of compensation.
